THIS IDEAL CONTEMPORARY HOME combines many characteristics privacy, openness, simplification, natural wood finishes, built-in units and outdoor living. Located at 5138 Jackwood, it was built by Fred Wall Construction Company and designed by Brooks and Brooks.

This stone and redwood model has large expanses of glass, separate living and bedroom areas, privacy from the street, birch paneling, terraced outdoor living area, and up-to-the minute kitchen built-ins.

The exterior features two long low gables filled with redwood paneling, decorative brick planter at the front, and low overhanging eaves. The garage is located at the front of the house with an inward swing driveway to insure privacy. The entry hall leads to the dining room on the left and to the family room in the center of the house.

The dining room opens into the kitchen and breakfast nook at the back of the house. The kitchen has all-electric Frigidaire built-ins, including oven, range, refrigerator, deep freeze, dishwasher, disposer, and automatic washer and dryer. The cabinets are birch and a birch bar separates the kitchen from the family room.

The family room is paneled in birch and has glass sliding doors onto the outdoor living area.


The bedroom wing has three bedrooms and two baths. A hall passageway has two large closets, one a walk-in cedar lined closet. The master bedroom has its own bath.

The house is air-conditioned by Frigidaire and is furnished in contemporary style by Joske's.

Builder Wall is a native of Abilene and has lived in Houston for 15 years. A graduate of the University of Texas, he has been in the building industry for 10 years. He has built in Woodside, Meyerland, Braes Heights, Southern Oaks and other additions.
