Houston Home Builders: #5151 Jackwood

HOUSTONIANS WHO PREFER contemporary home designs will enjoy the parade home at 5151 Jackwood built by Robert A. Tyler and designed by Thompson McCleary.

It is constructed of redwood and features a two-car carport at the front of the house. To the left of the carport is the bedroom and the living area is located at the back to insure complete privacy.

The roof is built-up topped with white marble and has an overhang on all sides to keep out the sun.

From the foyer one may enter the kitchen, bedroom wing or living room and dining area without going through any other part of the house.

The kitchen is equipped with Westinghouse appliances, including an oven and range, refrigerator, deep freeze, dishwasher and disposer. It is paneled in mahogany and has mahogany cabinets.

The living-dining area extends across the back of the house, separated from the family room by a partial wall. Sliding glass doors open from the living area onto a patio. Unlike many contemporary models, the family room does not open into the patio. It flows together with the breakfast nook and kitchen, serving as a convenient inside play area for children.

The entire house is carpeted and is air-conditioned with a General Electric unit.

It is furnished in contemporary style by Sears.

Builder Tyler is a relative newcomer to Houston and to the building business. A native of Birmingham, he came to Houston three years ago and started building homes a year later. He has built in Spring Branch as well as Meyerland.
