This house makes good sense in its extremely warm climate. Notice how the house is oriented in the plan below. The patio, the pool, both bedrooms, and all sizable stretches of glass wall face northeast. They catch some sun early in the day, but the house stands between them and the hot sun that beats down in late afternoon.
Thick walls of burnt adobe provide excellent insulation. The white roof reflects sun heat. The house is only about 1,575 square feet, but there is no waste space. A burnt adobe wall extends from the house to enclose the outdoor living area. It also sets definite limits on the amount of garden to be maintained.
