Sunset Homes: a house designed by Gordon Maas Luepke

The design of this small house in Tucson sensibly and pleasantly assembles architectural elements that keep it cool in a hot summer climate. Basically, it makes use of a device that is often too windy and chilly for many afternoons or evenings in many other areas: the breezeway patio. The spaced-lath overhead gives the brick-paved patio filtered shade but lets the breezes through. The patio is completely shaded by the house until mid- morning, and from midafternoon to evening by the carport roof.
