A COMBINATION of contemporary ideas of Old English design is offered in the parade home at 5131 Jackwood. Built by B-K Builders, Inc., and designed by Christiansen and Cannata, it resembles an import from the British countryside, with its steep roof and gables. It boasts such modern features as a brick planting area across the front and a plate glass entry way.
The home is dominated by a 26-foot front gable of plaster and heavy timber. The exterior is of used brick and rough California cedar boards. The front brick wall is perforated. The entry way at the side of the house features a covered porte cachere. The foyer has a flagstone floor and an entry with stairway leading to the attic, which has room for an additional two bedrooms and a bath.
The floor plan includes a living and dining area, large family room, kitchen, three bedrooms, two baths, several storage closets, a utility room and a two-car detached garage.
The plan makes maximum use of the indoor-outdoor living arrangement, with a terrace opening off the family room and living-dining area. Glass is used liberally throughout, with sliding glass doors opening off the family room and living room and full length windows in the master bedroom overlooking the planting area.
The kitchen is equipped with Westinghouse built-ins, including a refrigerator and deep freeze, oven and range. Kitchen cabinets are separated from the ceiling by a glass clerestory.
The home is furnished by Ridgecrest.
