SART Tower Bucharest, Romania

In 1934, on Victoriei Avenue, downtown Bucharest, Romania, the tallest building in the country is opened. Built on a steel beams structure, this art deco tower peaked at 172.2 ft. It was surpassed by the Intercontinental hotel in the 1970s.

The architects were Edmond van Saanen Algi, Louis Weeks and Walter Froy. Aside from the basic facilities that this type of building has, it also featured the first open-air sky-bar in Romania.

To make this project possible and to fully develop telephone communications across the country, in 1929, the Romanian government took a loan from American Morgan Trust and starts SART - a joitn venture with ITT (International Telephone and Telegraph Corporation).
