Fried banana crescents recipe from 1951

4 bananas

1 egg yolk

2 tbsp. water

2/3 cup fine bread crumbs

crisco for deep frying (or similar)

Cut bananas in half and split eac half. Dip into egg beaten with water, then into bread crumbs. Fry until brown deep. Serve with custard sauce.


CUSTARD SAUCE

2 cups milk

2 eggs

1/4 cup sugar

1/4 tsp. salt

1 tsp. vanilla

Scald milk in the top of a double boiler. Add sugar and salt to eggs and beat slightly. Stir scalded milk gradually into eggs, beating constantly and return to top of double boiler.Keeping the water in the bottom of double boiler below boiling cook custard, stirring constantly until it thickens. Remove from heta and pour into a bowl. When cool add vanilla.
