Birds Eye baby lima beans 'n summer squash recipe

This is one interesting recipe from june 1950. to make baby lima beans 'n summer squash recipe you need to cook one box of green, young lima beans for around 12 minutes, or until almost done. Drain, reserving liquid; add milk to make 1 1/2 cups, cut 1 lb. squash in 1/2 inch slices and cook in salted water uuntil almost tender. Fry 4 slices bacon until crisp; drain reserving drippings.

Saute 1 tbsp. chopped onion in 2 tbsp. butter or bacon drippings until golden brown. Add 2 tbsp. flour and blend. Add vegetable liquid and milk gradually. Add 1 bay leaf, salt and pepper, and 1/8 tsp. Worchestershire sauce. Cook until mixture is thickened, stirring constantly. Remove bay leaf.

Place partially cooked limas in 2 quart shallow bakingdish. Arrange slices of cooked squash around edge. Pour sauce over vegetables. Sprinkle 1/4 cup grated sharp cheese over squash. Bake in hot oven 400F for 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from oven and garnish with peaces of bacon.
