Sunset Homes: two neighboring U-plan houses, each has an entry walk across water | architects Killingsworth, Brady, Smith and Assoc.

The two houses shown here were designed as neighbors in a group of three houses. Both share a form of U-shaped floor plan. In both you enter on a walkway across a pool. Both use wood in an interesting, tailored way. Note how the dramatic entry court of the house above separates the bedroom wings from one another.

The second house has a similarly- shaped floor plan except that the court is divided into two areas. One of these, at the core of the house, is intimate in feeling and serves as an outdoor living area. The larger court serves the living room and master bedroom.

Both houses were award winners in an A.I.A.-Sunset Western Home Awards program.
