Sunset Homes: a small home by architects Howell and Arendt

Small and informal, this "house for retirement " is made up of areas rather than rooms-for living-dining, cooking, sleeping. Only a folding accordion door separates the sleeping alcove from the living room, and there is no door between living room and kitchen. Although this design makes no special provision for overnight guests, it would be easy enough to add minimum sleeping quar- ters to the carport storage area by widening it only slightly.

The whole house has the pleasant airy feeling of a summer house, open to garden views, light, and sun.
