Sunset Homes: a house with a garden for every room | architects: Criley and McDowell
An outdoor area matches every room in this house except the children's bathroom. Living room, dining room, and family room open to the rear terrace and garden by means of doors in a glass wall; the view the glass offers is also shared by the kitchen. The master bedroom has a fenced-in deck and a bathroom garden; both are private.
The house takes the shape of a cross, with the kitchen at the crux. The living zone (living room, kitchen, and family room) is surmounted by a large gable. A flat roof covers the sleeping zone on the street side, and the dining room. The intersection of the flat roof and gable provides clerestory windows to light the interior kitchen.
