The Maplewood is distinctly for those who favor the relaxed, country-style way of living. It not only has a rear living room, but the room is planned so that it has three exposures. A large window wall faces the rear and other windows are arranged overlooking the side garden. You get plenty of light, plus cooling breezes on hot summer days and a restful view the whole year 'round. The room is also in the "end zone"-away from traffic. No one need pass through it to reach any other part of the house. In a home of this type, you'd naturally expect a wood-burning fireplace. It's here.
This front kitchen has undeniable advantages. It is but a step from the garage, a real time-and-labor-saver when carrying in groceries. And it's only a few feet from a location in the garage where the family freezer could be placed without usurping space needed to store two large cars. There are almost twenty-five feet of counter tops and cabinets and appliance space. There's also a unique nook arrangement. You can eat informal meals here, or use it as a desk or for china storage.
Near both the kitchen and living room is a dining room which occupies more than 120 square feet. This, too, has large windows facing the rear. A door leads to the porch where a great deal of informal entertaining can be done except in the very coldest months of the year.
By the front door there is a floor-to-ceiling window which throws light into the foyer and upon the stairs leading to the second floor. A large guest closet is on the left of the entrance foyer. Many house-wives who would otherwise favor a rear living room-front kitchen arrangement object that they do not want guests to get their first impression of the house from the kitchen, where perhaps breakfast dishes remain unwashed in midday. The can't happen here; the kitchen is hidden from the foyer. All that guests can see is your spotless living room.
Off the center hall to the left of the foyer are two bedrooms, both with windows on two walls, and with unusually spacious closets. Serving this area is a modernistic bathroom. The wash basin is set into an attractive vanity table and above it is a large mirror. The bathtub is recessed on the opposite side, window is oversized.
