Fawcett Homes: The Du Barry | Architect: Rudolph Matern

HOW CAN YOU give a modern-sized home a big and interesting look? One way is to provide it with a high, sloping roof. A roof is economical to construct: asphalt shingles, the usual covering, generally cost under a dime a square foot. Not only does a lot of roof make a house look larger, but it also encloses an expansion attione of the most economical ways to get additional living space.

The Du Barry makes use of this and other interesting and inexpensive techniques. Breaks in the front and rear add interest to the exterior. The garage is in front of one bedroom and projects forward. It has a large storage compartment near the entrance.

The first floor has a large living room extending from front to back; a separate dining room; two bedrooms and one bath.
