BH&G Five Star Home #2901

There's complete freedom in choosing exterior wall materials for this house. Posts, not walls, bear weight of roof. Across back, glass is lined up in procession of fixed and sliding units, to open living room, study, and child's bedroom to back yard. Families will like this home's costly-looking style and space; also the simple plan and modern materials that cut housekeeping time.

Framing of this house shows a new use of familiar post-and-beam. Posts go outside to rest on concrete piers. No walls not even the exteriors support the roof. Instead, walls are non-loadbearing "screens." They can be placed wherever room planning requires, and be composed of any material you care to use. (Here, glass, wood, and concrete block alternate.) Construction is simplified; all beams are the same size and length.

Utility room in foreground matches house precisely, with sheltering overhang that rests on exterior post-and-pier. Enclosed courtyard is a delight for informal entertaining or for use by family alone.
