The first flight of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning

Developed for the United States Army Air Corps by the Lockheed Corporation, the P-38 incorporated a distinctive twin-boom design with a central nacelle containing the cockpit and armament. It had its first flight 27 January 1939. One interesting feature were opposite directions turning propellers. A fantastic aircraft, used from bombing to dogfights and even aerial reconnaissance.
