Kellett XR-8 twin-rotor helicopter had its first flight in 1944, August 7th. Two models were manufactured with the purpose of demonstrating the feasibility of a twin-rotor helicopter. Anumber of problems, including strong vibrations stopped them from being mass produced. One of them can be seen at the National Air and Space Museum.
