A lovely lakeside vacation home from 1965

This lovely lakeside retreat is perfect for any climate. It combines the advatanges of a year-round home with a light, slim design that makes it appealing retreat. From the lakeshore side, the house presents a balanced silhouette. A series of fixed-glass panels faces the view, shaded by the window overhang and the trees.

On the back the house shows the light, floating effect of the band of clear glass under eaves and gables. This, together with the trim roof line, takes away the weighty look so many vacation houses have. Grooved siding, well-proportioned window openings and a bright door complete the tailored appearance.

The compact plan makes this 920-square-foot house a pleasure to live in: living-dining-kitchen areas are grouped by the fireplace; bedrooms are on the quiet end; each door opens onto a 12-foot-wide deck unit.

In the living-dining area, glass panels let you enjoy a roowm-wide panorama of the lake, weather you are fixing a snack or eating lunch.

At one end of the living area, the fireplace wall dramatizes the impact of the glass gable. Steel ti-erods anchor the roof without blocking the beamed ceiling's broad sweep.
