A magnificent house in the Arizona desert

Pale beige concrete brick blends with the surrounding desert. The concrete block "grille" screens the entry court nd calls attention to entrance door beyond. The fireplace chimney and the shadows from the overhanging gridd add ramatic style to the living room side.

The living room is a restful haven for conversation and for entertaining. The fireplace wall extends beyond the large windows to carry the eye outside; this extension also screens the room from the street. Fireplace column is actually outside the room, does not take valuable floor space. Note that the itnerior walls and trim are the same shade as the exterior of the house, giving a feeling of unity and continuous space flow.

The workday room of the household caters to everyone's needs. The Knoxes planned this family room to take the wear and tear of everyday living, without a lot of frills that multiply housekeeping chores. The built-in desk helps Lin organize her activities; the large toy closet keeps the girl's playthings neat and easy to reach. Outside,m the terrace and the big sunshield grid offer a fine spot for games or more quiet relaxation.
