This lovely MCM home from Park Ridge, Illinois, was the property of Rand and Lorry Roth. Four 10-foot modules made the construction easy and economical. The house itself includes only 1.272 square feet of living space.
Street side of the house presents a straight forward, uncluttered appearance. Entry is around the left side of the garage. The smooth white stucco panels under the bedroom windows weren't painted, require no maintenance. The redwood used needs only a protective sealer. Darker posts and beams are treated with black creosote.
Window wall extends across living-dfining room and makes it easy for Lorry to check on the children when they play outside. Metal-sash windows are all standard. Wood ceiling is supported by laminated fir beams. The roof above it is a standard built-up of tar and gravel. Water stands on this sturdy roof all year to deflect the sun's rays in summer and insulate in the winter.
Sitting area in the living room is as homey as you could ask. Prefabricated fireplace serves to divide the living and dining rooms, and radiates warmth to both. Wall behind the couch is random-width redwood, sealed the same way as the redwood used on the exterior. White wall is plaster board.
