A 1957 kitchen with a play area and a breakfast nook. Plan provided!

This 1957 kitchen was designed as the central point of the house. Sweeping storage wall with built-in laundry area and meal planning corner. Host of worksaving appliances are a huge peninsula to give working room. The kitchen is divided yet open for different activities. Painted panel wall separates eating area from barbecue, males a handsome backdrop for relaxed meals. Lace curtains, antiqued angel wall hangings, Boston ferns in white iron urn, traditional dinnerware, ironstone bowls, marble-like surface, brass touches soften architectural lines.

Barbecue corner teams up with cooking center to turn out delicious feasts. Kabobs go'round on motor-driven spits of protable grill. Ceramic tile accented with brass strips is snal to clean. brass hood moves up and down as needed. Shorty 30-inch cabinets make handy work surfaces, store supplies.

The core of this kitchen is spacious 6x4 foot cooking top peninsula. It's topped with marble-like laminated counter. Cooking top is close to both kitchen eating area and dining room (through center doors). Wall refigerator, undercoutner freezer and sink are just steps away. Room-length sweep of ceiling panel lighting, soffit lights and four "slim-jims" over peninsula flood kitchen with "sunshine". Ventialtor hidden in the panel light frame keeps kitchen fresh. Tin butterflies decorate the bold magenta-red wall, are a bit of fun.

Family charmer has a place all her own, too. Never underfoot, the little one is always in sight. Enclosed area in kitchen also satisfies child' desire to be near mother. Gate pulls out of storage hideout (at right), fits into clips on peninsula. Undercounter cabinets house the toddler's toys.
