The bronze woman, erect in her chariot, holds aloft a banner and an unsheathed sword. To right and left are winged figures symbolic of victory. Set into the piers supporting the arch are two equestrian bronzes, in relief, representing Lincoln and Grant. The cornerstone for this monument was laid by General Sherman in 1889. The figures were designed by Frederick MacMonnies.

To mnay ballet critics 26-year-old Violetta Elvin of England's Sadler's Wells company is not only a gifted dancer but also "the world's most beautiful ballerina." Photographer Zoltan Glass created an amazing photoshoot with Violetta being the center of it. She spent more than 120 hours in his studio, leaping, spinning and balancing while the photographer placed different colored filters in front of his lights and made multiple exposures of the dancer. After the photoshoot ended she went on a 15 weeks American tour.
