Sunset Homes: a house designed by David Throne

The owners of this mountain house were very conscious of the rugged beauty of their secluded site and did not want it disturbed. The architect worked out a structural design in steel that would support the entire house on seven concrete pylons rising from the rock underneath. Only one small cedar had to be removed. Otherwise, existing trees were permitted to penetrate deck areas and overhangs; a huge sugar pine shades kitchen and living area windows on the west. The house has a double set of overhangs for added protection from the sun.
