Sunset Homes: a 1,430 sqft house designed by Ted Bower

 


A plastic skylight, raised above ceiling height and sweeping the full length of the living room and beyond, gives this house a spacious daylit quality. Yet it's a small house of only 1,430 square feet.

Two other interesting features are the tilt-up concrete wall (shown in the photo above), and the way the master bedroom can be made a part of the living room (see floor plan). This is a convenient arrangement as it means that the fire can be enjoyed from the bedroom as well as from the kitchen- living-dining areas.

The house has other special qualities about it having been built entirely by the owners over a six-year period. The owner, who was already a hobby carpenter, developed into a better-than- average cabinet maker (he made more than a hundred drawers).
