The family room should function with the kitchen. When located adjacent to, or as part of, the work area, the children at play may be under the constant eye of the housekeeper. The family room should also be handy to the outdoors. This keeps traffic through other rooms at a minimum. The family room may also be called an all-purpose room. In this design it also functions most efficiently as a dining area.
