1936 home in Madison, Wisconsin. Roy Deakman, designer. Geo. A. Chatterton, builder.

When people say a house is "as cold as a barn" in winter, there is something wrong with the house con-struction. It probably is not built to keep out drafts and is not properly insulated. A concrete house with dense, impervious walls, well insulated with standard insulat-ing materials, is always warm and dry in winter. Heat losses are kept to a minimum and cost of heating and air conditioning is far lower than for the average house.
