Forgotten retail: Channel home-improvement centers chain

The Whippany, New Jersey based company opened its first store in 1948. Sadly in  August 1994 Channel ceased to exist. Today we are going to look at the drive-in stores of 1955.

Channel Lumber Company is channeling a big hunk of the home repair and improvement business in Springfield, N.J., into its drive-in branch there. Besides lumber, Channel sells kitchen ware, plumbing fixtures, laundry hampers, dog equipment and allied lines. Weekends the store runs how-to-do classes.
