This majestic art deco movie theater was built in 1940 by LA Times publisher Norman Chandler. The building was designed by the great Gordon Kaufmann, tha same man that designed Hoover Dam.
At the opening night the guests were entertained by Frank Sinatra and Tommy Dorsey and his Orchestra. Inside the building there were also six bars serving liquor and two serving sodas.
In WW2 it hosted Betty Grable's radio broadcasts for the servicemen. Also in 1961 president Kennedy attended a dinner here.
