The first flight of the XF2Y-1 Sea-Dart, world's first delta-wing seaplane.

XF2Y-1 Sea-Dart, world's first delta-wing seaplane, was a prototype that flew for the first time on 14 January 1953, and also was the first seaplane to have exceeded the speed of sound. It used hydro-skis for take-off and landing. Only 5 were built.

On 4 November 1954 test pilot Charles E. Richbourg was killed when the Sea Dart he was piloting disintegrated in midair, and with this the project was canceled. While officially retired in 1957, the planes were kept on stand buy until 1962.
