In January 1961 the scale model for the Convair NX-2 nuclear propulsion bomber was shown to public. After 14 yearts' research and an investment of close to 1 billion dollars, the plane's reactor is under test and two different engine systems, both slated for early flight testing, were in advanced development. Big as a B-52, 180 ft. from nose to tail and wingspan of about 150 ft, had swept back wings and non-orthodox tail control surfaces. It was planned to be manufactured at Convair's plan in Forth Worth, Texas. But in the same year the project was canceled.
