Trying desperately to lure buyers away from each other in a field that is more fiercely competitive today than ever before, most of the big auto companies are presenting entirely new models for 1955. The first radically different designs released to the public are the Chevrolet and Pontiac. Styled along the squared lines of the 1954 Oldsmobile (which was the hottest car of that year), both Chevy and Pontiac have wrap-around windshields, the big 1954 innovation. The Chevy also offers a V-8 engine which, like the Pontiac's new V-8, has pistons set in zigzag formation to permit higher compression ratio. Both cars have tubeles tires as standard equipment. As optional equipment it has a "carburetor kit" which will up engine horsepower by 20, bringing Chevrolet's top possible horsepower to 180, Pontiac's to 200.
