In 1954, Conrad N. Hilton, president of Hilton Hotels Corporation takes over the Statler chain. From that point the company had over 25 hotels in its portfolio, from the Waldorf-Astoria in New York to  the hotels in Boston, Washington, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Detroit and other leading cities. The international division of Hilton opened its first hotels in San Juan, Puerto Rico and Madrid, with new openings planned for 1955: Istanbul, Cairo, London, Havana, Mexico City, Acapulco and Rome.
