From fashion model to Hollywood actress - the gorgeous Joanne Gilbert

Joanne Gilbert grew up in Hollywood, a town full of careers for a pretty girl. But she left to try to become a fashion model in New York. Not very successful, she went home and tried her luck as a nightclub singer. Her voice and sensational appearance in tight black pants rocketed her right into the movies. Now 21 (1954 - my annotation), Miss Gilbert is a star in the film Red Garters. Almost equally gratifying, the rebuffed model is acquiring a considerable reputation as a clotheshorse who looks good in everything from ball gown to bikini.

Strapless ball gown with slim front, swishing back panel (Galanos, $400) is worn with giant glitter earrings (I. Magnin, $85)

Checked coat made of upholstery fabric lined with jersey (Gernreich-Bass, $125) has seal colar and cuffes. Miss Gilbert likes this for cool weather as she seldom wears suits.

Fleece jacket has a scooped neck and short sleeves )$50, goes over a matchingpastel wool jersey sheath ($30, both Jeri Holmes) in casual outfit for afternoon and evening.
