La Marquise apartment building, Los Angeles

Built at the begining of the 1930s, on 535 S. Gramercy Place, this beautiful art deco apartment building still stands today (february 2022). It bears the signature of Barber and Kingsbury Architects. Made out of concrete, in La Marquise Apartments both lined and unlined forms were used together with plaster waste molds to obtain the pleasing combination of texture and detail.
