1953 - a visit at Lauren Bacall's home

Party dress favored by Mrs. Bacall is a bright, spectacular Traina-Norell wool jersey.

In 1944, 20-years-old Lauren Bacall's angular figure, long hair and tailored suits became symbol of sex appeal to young U.S. girls. Now, as Mrs. Humphrey Bogart, mother of two, she is the model of a sophisticated young matron and may soon be influencing another generation of sultry imitators. Making her first picture in three years. How to Marry a Millionaire, she pits her casual siren technique against the contrasting methods of Marilyn Monroe and Betty Grable. The new, sleeker Miss Bacall is shrewd in chossing her clothes, tasteful and imaginative in combining simple lines and strident colors.

Long-legged look is accentuated by bright cotton pants. Mrs. Bacall wears them with felt tunic and strapless jersey top (Gernreich-Bass) around the Bogarts' new Beverly Hills home, where these pictures were taken. Wearing a towel is son Stephen, 4. The Bogarts also have an 8-month-old daughter, Leslie.

Lauren Bacall-Bogart. Born September 16, 1924 in New York as Betty Ioana Perske. Her mother was an immigrant from Iasi, Romania.

She was known for her alluring, sultry presence and her distinctive, husky voice. Bacall was one of the last surviving major stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood cinema.

In 1954 she starred in Key Largo alongside another Romanian actor - Edward G. Robinson.

She also starred in The Gift of Love (1958), a flick directed by Jean Negulesco. And of course let's not forget another movie directed by Negulesco - "How to Marry a Millionaire" in which she shares the screen with two other iconic actresses Marilyn Monroe and Betty Grable.

My favorite movie of hers is by far "To Have and Have Not" (1944) - in which she meets Bogart for the first time.
