On december 18th, 1909, in the small romanian village of Corabia, Paula Iliescu was born. Her passion for theater and film and the large admiration for the polish actress Pola Negri made her change her name to Polla Illery.
During the early 1920s she moves to Paris and gets some minor roles in french movies. Her fame comes after she stars in the leading female role in Paramount on Parade Romania.
In Paris, through her lover at that time, the famous romanian painter Constantin Brancusi, she meets United States Army Air Corps Major Charles H. Greiner, whom she marries and with whom she moves to Hollywood and from 1928 her american film career starts.
For a decade she plays vamp roles in precode movies. After her last film appearance's in 1938, she enroles alongside her husband, as a member of the Red Cross. In 1946 they both return to the States, but sadly, short time after Charles H. Greiner dies in a car accident. Later Polla marries James Gibson and they move together to Palos Verdes, California, where she lived until her passing away on october 19th, 1993, at the venerable age of 83.
