This compact 1961 home from Texas was designed by architect Donald A. Honn, A.I.A. No complicated roof lines confuse this sparkling, welcoming exterior. All the windows you see are in the bedrooms. They are small enough to keep the rooms private yet large enough for plenty of light and air. Their placement, too, makes sense for furniture arrangement inside. Note the wall projection by the driveway that hides the bicycle clutter.
continuous open ceilings and little division between dining and living rooms make them seem largen than they are. Placed at the back, these rooms look out onto their own private garden view; fences enclose the rear yard. The bottom window sashes slide up for ventilation.
Interesting glass panels beside the front door make a handsome, impressive entry. And the roof overhang protects the small porch. With this house, you could later convert the garage to a family room and put carport out front. This area would then become a garden court.
There's no "back-yard" feeling in this outdoor living area. It is convenient to the living and dining rooms just inside and this side of the house is as handsome as the front. Big toys can be put in the garage through a rear door. It's convenient for garden tools, too. Momn can see activities here directly from kitchen.
