This interesting building was a display home, ordered by Aluminium Company of America and designed by architect Charles M. Goodman, A.I.A. and Associates, Washington, D.C. The house measures 87x42 (including carport) and has 1.900 square feet of living space (without carport).
Terrace end of house opens up with glass from floor to roof peak to couple indoor and outdoor living areas. Living, dining and family rooms are through sliding glass. Terrace of aggregate squares, spotted with blocks of low shrubbery, flows around entire house. Low brick retaining walls, scaled to house also serve as shelf-seats.
Imaginative touches and trim of aluminium blend with wood, glass, other materials. Living, dining, family areas cluster around kitchen. All open out on inviting terrace.
Like a room within a room, kitchen is surrounded by communal areas of the house. It;s open to dining (door between walnut panels), also to family room (pass-through with bright, plastic-front cabinets above and below). Lavender anodized aluminium with ash battens forms wall of utility room, defines hall.
