An old oak with a brick house built around it

House gains long look with low-pitched room and horizontal siding. Brick end walls give solid appearance, provide privacy and quiet for the sleeping wing.

Warm glow of welcomes comes from rich, fall-blending colors of front door and flanking panels. Glass around entry brightens reception area. Rosy brick, redwood are topped by bold white stripe of fascia. Plentiful storage is in carport's wall.

From just inside the entry, guests can be guided to the living area o past it to family room or terrace. There's a sense of division between the areas, but all three can work as one when you're entertaining a crowd. The autumn scene is subtly echoed by the interior color scheme.

Up close, you can see how this delightful terrace fits between family room and living area (left). It faces south, offers extended use from early srping into Indian summer. Louvered screen (right) blocks street view, but not breeze.
