Designed by David S. Barrow for Servel Inc., this house is furnished by Gimbel Brothers of Philadelphia and Better Homes and Gardens.
In this house the entire room arrangement is centered on the entrance hall, which carries all traffic from room to room. It carries you from the front door to any room in the house, without going through any other room. It sets the living off by itself and makes it a room of quiet uninterrupted by members of the family passing through other rooms. It lets you quickly and directly from the kitchen to the bathroom and from the living to the bedrooms.
The two bedrooms are on the street side of the house. Two rows of closets and a hallway separate bedrooms from living-room. The centrally placed kitchen-utility room is a U-shaped area, with a partition that divides one work space from the other. On one side you have your range and work counter, with your refrigerator across the aisle. On the back side you have solid cabinet space. The sink is under the windows where it is convenient to both the kitchen and utility areas.
Raised fireplace is natual focal point for conversational grouping of furniture. Sectional sofa in yellow contrasts with wall of gray brick. Fireside furniture can be used as seating for television entertainment. Armchairs are upholstered in brown, nubby material woven with golden metallic thread.
The living-dining area presents this dramatic view just before draperies are pulled for the evening. Deep oberhang keeps the summer sun and rain off windows. On both sides of fixed windows are floor-to-ceiling casement windows. A translucent glass partition comes into it as a continuation of the entrance hall, to shield the dining area.
