Within a few weeks after erection a Hodgson House blends in beautifully with the landscape and "belongs" to its surroundings. The plan is an unusually practical one for convenient and pleasant living.
The Living Room pictured below is decorated in the French Provincial and early American manner, well illustrating the fact that Hodgson Houses are adaptable to furnishings of different periods.

A study of this plan will show some features that are many times desirable: a separate entrance hall with closets a garage attached a living room of unusual size and bedrooms with bath for each.
The picture below shows an 18 x 18 ft. bedroom with a fireplace, which is especially desirable in a tropical climate where the evenings are cool.
The above picture was taken soon after one of Florida's wind storms, which accounts for the straggling appearance of the vegetation.

THIS CABIN goes so far beyond merely carving shelter from the wilderness that it makes us wonder how it was created. It started when the owners camped on every part of their site, learning it first-hand, so they could save the best spot instead of building on top of it.
Then, the designers asked the owners what they wanted of California's High Sierra, and the answer was: simply to be in it. So every view which could be seen from the cabin was worked out in the planning.
The sun was treated as both friend and enemy. Morning eastern sun may come in through an open wall to warm the cabin and wake sleepers, but by noon it is kept in its place by the deck's deep overhang.
There was no strain to seek unusual materials which would be used for their sake alone.
The result is a cabin which fits the owners as well as it fits its site. The design was by Ruth Gerth and George Kosmak.
